Is engineering technology the same as engineering?

Engineering technology and engineering are related fields but are very different in their methods: 

Engineering technology combines the principles of engineering with modern tech and hands-on application to develop and physically design solutions to problems.
Engineering uses scientific and mathematical principles to solve an issue, adopting more of a theoretical, hands-off approach to creating a solution.

Can you become a professional engineer with an engineering technology degree?

In most cases, no, you cannot become a licensed professional engineer with an engineering technology degree — even though both fields work together to achieve common goals in the industry. If engineering technology is the field you’re interested in, we have several engineering technology programs that are designed to help you build the problem-solving skills used in the field.

How do I apply to DeVry?

Applying is quick and easy: 

1. Talk to an admissions representative: Fill out a brief form, and we’ll reach out to walk you through the process.
2. Submit your application: We’ll take you through the application over the phone. If you prefer, you can apply online. It only takes 5-10 minutes.
3. Enroll in your first courses: Once you have applied and are accepted, we’ll help you build your schedule.
