Is PMP certification worth getting?

Yes, the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification can be worth it, especially if you want to advance your project management career potential or boost your credibility with employers. This credential is recognized globally by many organizations and shows potential employers that you understand standardized project management best practices.

What are the prerequisites for PMP?

To qualify for the PMP certification, you must meet education, experience, and training requirements set by the Project Management Institute.

With a bachelor's degree or higher:

  • 36 months or 3 years of experience leading and managing projects within the past 8 years
  • 35 hours of project management education/training


With a bachelor’s degree or higher from a GAC accredited program:

  • 24 months or 2 years of experience leading and managing projects within the past 8 years
  • 35 hours of project management education or training (GAC core project management coursework is pre-approved to fulfill this requirement)

Which certification is best for project management?

The best project management certification for you depends on your experience level, career goals, and what industries you want to work in. For experienced project managers, the PMP certification may be a good fit. If you have fewer than 3 years of experience, the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® might be a better option.
