How does competency-based progression work?

Competency-based education allows you to progress by showing that you’ve mastered career-aligned competencies rather than spending a set amount of time in class. This allows you to move quickly through familiar material while spending more time on what’s new to you. Here at Keller, each Fast Track course includes:. . 3 competencies , each focused on a defined knowledge or skill area. 3 topics per competency , with 3 lessons and 1 nongraded learning activity per topic. 1 graded assessment per competency that measures your ability to apply what you’ve learned in practical, career-relevant scenarios. . You pass the course once you’ve completed all lessons and activities and successfully achieved mastery on competency assessments. Need extra help? Take advantage of faculty office hours, weekly live lessons (along with recordings), 1:1 faculty walkthroughs, and ongoing coaching and support.

How are competency assessments graded?

Faculty evaluate each competency assessment using a clearly defined rubric, so you know what’s expected before you submit it. You’ll receive feedback within 72 hours and earn 1 of 3 results:. . Mastery+ (4.0). Mastery (3.0). Not Met (0.0). . If you receive a “Not Met” grade on your first attempt, you can revise and resubmit within your active subscription period. If you receive “Not Met” on your second submission, you’ll be required to meet with your instructor before submitting a third time.

Is Fast Track easier than a traditional format?

Neither format is easier than the other since Fast Track changes how you progress — not what you learn. The academic standards for our Fast Track format are the same as in our traditional format. However, instead of earning grades based on weekly assignments, discussions, quizzes, or exams scheduled throughout the term, you'll make progress as you demonstrate your understanding of clearly defined competencies and outcomes.

Will employers recognize a degree earned through the Fast Track format?

Yes. The degree you earn through Fast Track is the same DeVry University credential you’d earn in our traditional programs. However, it is important to note that it is highly recommended for you to actively participate throughout your subscription period and you are required, at a minimum, to complete at least 1 academic activity within the first 21 days of your subscription period and log in at least once every 21 days.

How will I be supported during my program?
