Meet Adeline Gray, a 25-year-old world champion wrestler — a feat in and of itself, amplified by the fact that hers is a sport not only dominated by men, but by sexist opinions.And yet, that doesn’t stop her. 1.Was your goal always to become an Olympic athlete, or was there a turning point in your career where you realized it was a possibility?
I started when I was six — it was a bunch of kids playing games and having a blast, learning new moves. I remember watching kids in high school wrestle and seeing how good they were at the moves, but I don’t knowif I watched Olympic-style wrestling until I went overseas on my first tour at age 16. I think that’s when I realized it was a possibility.
2.What is a typical day of training like?
The morning is all about rehab and practice. I always have to take a midday nap. In the evening, I’m back at practice and lifting. It’s full-time training all the time. So much goes into it: biking, yoga, lifting, cardio sprints, wrestling,rehab. It’s a lot.
