DeVry University Congratulates Swimmer Anna Johannes on Bronze Medal Win at London Paralympic Games

Business administration student finishes third in women's 4 x 100-meter Medley Relay

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.

DeVry University congratulates Paralympian Anna Johannes for winning the bronze medal as a member of the women’s 4 x 100-meter Medley Relay team at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Johannes is a student currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in business administration from DeVry University.

Johannes won her first Paralympic medal as a member of the women’s 4 x 100-meter Medley Relay team that included Jessica Long, Susan Beth Scott and Mallory Weggemann. No stranger to the podium, Johannes previously earned five gold and one silver medal – and set Parapan American records in the 100-meter Breaststroke and 100-meter Butterfly events – at the 2011 Parapan American Games.

When she’s not at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Johannes is preparing for life after competition. After she graduates, she hopes to use her personal experience along with her degree to better the world. At the age of two, Johannes was adopted from Kyrgyzstan, and though she no longer lives there, she still feels connected to the Kyrgyzstani children.

“I want to pursue international relations to help other Kyrgyzstani children with disabilities like me,” Johannes explains. “Through DeVry University’s partnership with Team USA, I have the opportunity to work toward my career goals while I continue to train for competition.”

In November 2011, DeVry partnered with the U.S. Olympic Committee to become an official education provider of the USOC and Team USA. Through this partnership, DeVry University provides educational options at the undergraduate and graduate level to current and former athletes with the flexibility to accommodate students during their athletic training and competition schedule.

“We applaud Anna Johannes and all Team USA Paralympic athletes for the dedication they have given to the London 2012 Paralympic Games,” said David J. Pauldine, president of DeVry University.
