The need to address continued growth of the Latino college population will be a major factor our nation’s ability to remain competitive in the global economy. In August, the Pew Hispanic Center, a project of the Pew Research Center, called attention to new Census data that shows Latinos comprise the largest minority on college campuses, with 2 million Hispanics ages 18 to 24 enrolled in college last year.
“At DeVry University, we hold our continued recognition as an attractive option for minority and non-traditional students in high regard,” said Dr. Donna Loraine, provost/vice president of academic affairs for DeVry University. “We’re proud to offer degree programs that fit the unique lifestyles of Hispanic students and help them prepare for future career success.”
Research shows that Hispanic students are typically older – some with families – and many work full- or part-time. Acknowledging that these can be barriers to education for many non-traditional students, DeVry University offers flexible scheduling, online course offerings and accelerated programs.
DeVry University curriculum that guides its degree programs is tied directly to the skills and attributes hiring managers are looking for in candidates for employment in in-demand career fields. Students receive education from experienced faculty, many of whom are veterans of the industries their courses align with. Furthermore, current students and graduates have lifelong access to DeVry University’s Career Services program, which connects graduates with employers.
