Sheriff donates computers to families at Aldine storefront

In a presentation Tuesday at the Harris County Sheriff's Office Aldine Storefront, 20 local families received free desktop computers.

Sheriff Adrian Garcia came to the storefront to present the computers. DeVry University refurbished the used computers and donated them to the Sheriff's Office in hopes of helping out deserving families whose children need them, but who might have trouble affording them.

During the presentation, Garcia urged the kids to use the computers for homework, and told families to look out for their online safety, according to a press release from HCSO.

Sgt. Earl B. Dean of HCSO's Community Support Bureau says DeVry reached HCSO in December 2010 about the computers. Dean then put together a list of families to receive them.

"Eleven of the families are from the Aldine area," Dean says. "The other nine families are from the east side of Harris County, mainly Crosby, Baytown, and Channelview."
