Many high school students agonize over the right college for them. But there has been no such anguish for Bobby King, an Edgewood High School senior studying computer network systems at Butler Tech.
“Some have a long list of choices that they narrow down to a short list,” he said. “I started with a short list of one.”
King, a member of the Liberty Township Explorers, which allows him to train with firefighters and police officers, said, “I love computers and I wanted to work in the criminal justice field, so I just put two and two together” and decided he wanted to major in computer forensics.
“Computer forensics would let me work for a sheriff’s office or police department,” he said, “so that when a computer has been confiscated, I can see what’s on it that may be of interest to law enforcement.”
After searching near and far — but not too far — King found only one college in the area that offered a degree in computer forensics, DeVry University, a for-profit institution founded in Chicago in 1931 that now has more than 90 campuses nationwide, according to its website. There is one in Mason, where King will attend.
“I also like that they have small class sizes,” King said. “My admissions adviser said that she’s only seen one class that had as many as 20 students in it.
